About the event

Snake Rescue Course

Wildcare’s Snake Rescue Course (SRC) focuses on the skills you will need to better understand snakes and basic skills to safely rescue snakes.

Participants will learn about snake identification, first aid, snake handling techniques, and methods to reduce snake interaction around the home. Participants will develop an appreciation and understanding of snake behaviour.


The initial SRC consists of a theory session and a one-day practical session. All initial SRC participants are required to attend the online theory session from 6pm Friday. Microsoft Teams is used to run the online training, accessed via the links below and included in the details of the booking. Refresher training consists of a three-hour face-to-face training session only.


Covered in this course

  • NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service code-of-practice, Initial Care and Treatment for Injured Reptiles;

  • Skills – can place snake in bag repeatedly, safely;

  • Attitudes – can connect and communicate effectively and with concern for personal safety and welfare of the snake;

  • Preparation – has appropriate PPE, equipment is in good repair, compression bandage on person;

  • Displays a calm and direct approach to snake handling. Does not show evidence of cavalier attitude, showing off or complacency in approach; and

  • Beliefs – represents Wildcare Queanbeyan with professionalism and is familiar with the Wildcare Code of Conduct and why this exists.


Protective Clothing

  • Participants must wear jeans or heavy work trousers. Trousers should not be skin-tight (e.g. no jodpurs or skinny jeans).

  • Participants must also wear sturdy leather footwear that covers the ankle (e.g. work boots, hiking boots). No footwear with mesh.

  • Please wear hat, sunscreen and protective clothing.


Course fees*

Wildcare Members - $220

Wildcare Members (refresher) - $30

Other wildlife group member - $250

Other wildlife group member (refresher) - $50

Approved employer - $300

Approved employer (refresher) - $90 *Equipment for initial participants includes snake hoop and bag, pressure immobilisation bandage and snake hook (jigger) is included in the booking fee. Non-Wildcare participants must sign an indemnity form.

Please bring your own lunch. Coffee/tea and light refreshments will be available.


Please note:

  • Payment is required by credit card or PayPal at time of booking.

  • Please enter your name as you would like it to appear on your course qualification certificate.

  • If your authorising wildlife group is not listed in the booking system, please select ‘Other’ so we can contact you for details.

  • Bookings close one week prior to the course or when capacity is reached, whichever occurs first.
